Why Regenerative?

Sonny's Farm regeneratively farmed rooster free-range chicken
Sonny’s Farm is completely committed to regenerative farming practices. We understand the impact that this method of farming can have on the environment and our customers’ health, and while regenerative farming can be time consuming and strenuous, we believe that its benefits are worth the extra effort. There are so many important benefits from consuming meat from animals raised in pastures, fed non-GMO feed, and not given antibiotics or hormones.

Higher Nutritional Value
Meat from pasture-raised animals has a higher nutritional value than commercially farmed meat. It contains higher levels of nutrients such as Omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA). These nutrients are vital for maintaining good health and preventing chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.

No Antibiotics or Hormones
We do not administer antibiotics or hormones to our animals. We believe the overuse of antibiotics in animal feed has led to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, which can cause serious health problems in humans. Animals raised on pasture do not require antibiotics because they are not confined in tight spaces, and their immune systems are stronger due to their access to a natural diet and outdoor living conditions. Similarly, hormones are not needed in pasture-raised animals because they are allowed to grow at their natural pace, which results in healthier and more flavorful meat.

Non-GMO Feed
GMO (Genetically Modified Organism) crops are created by altering the DNA of plants to make them resistant to pests, herbicides, or other environmental factors. These crops are often used in animal feed, which can have a detrimental effect on the animals' health and the environment. Non-GMO feed is free from these modifications, and it is healthier for the animals, the soil, and the ecosystem. Beyond this, our feed is corn and soy free. All of our animals are encouraged to forage daily, but our pigs and chickens receive species-appropriate feed. Our cows and sheep are provided access to some hay during leaner months.

Better Living Conditions
Our animals have better lives than those raised in confinement. They have access to fresh air, sunshine, and natural grazing, which are essential for their overall health and well-being. They are not subjected to the stress and overcrowding that can result in the spread of diseases and the need for antibiotics.

Environmental Benefits
We believe that our pasture-raised animals have a positive impact on the environment. Their grazing habits help to maintain healthy soil, reduce erosion, and promote the growth of native plants. This, in turn, can help combat climate change by sequestering carbon in the soil.

Our farm believes that the way we raise our animals has a healthy impact on you, on the environment, and on the lives of the animals themselves. We want you to delight in every mouthful, knowing that you are consuming the best possible meat products.
